REELlibrarian, a complete distributed tape library management system fornetworked UNIX systems, allows users to access tape storage on an ad hocbasis while ensuring the integrity and security of valuable data.REELlibrarian protects tapes from being inadvertently written over, sentto the wrong location, or lost. REELlibrarian manages tape libraries anduser tape mount requests via a central operator. It also providessimple, logical, media-independent access to off-line storage facilities.A centralized mount request system presents tape mount requests to theoperator, and an on-line catalog tracks tapes and tape activity.REELlibrarian includes a programmer's function library of C languageroutines for performing mounts and tape access from within UNIX programs.
